About
Regardless of where you are in your parenting journey, there are always new challenges to navigate. Connecting and sharing your experiences with others at a similar stage can bolster your confidence in yourself and your children, while offering a sense of community and support.
Our goal at Imperfect Parents is to provide social support for all parents from before baby arrives (antenatal classes), to the postnatal period (parent support groups), right up until your child heads off to school (Nature playgroup)! Our groups are LGBTQIA+ inclusive, where there is no "one right way" to build and nurture your whānau.
The name says it all; before you even enter the group there is no assumption that anyone has their sh*t together, so we don't have to pretend or act like we do. Our goal is support YOUR wellbeing, by normalising your experiences, normalising what is happening with your child, creating community, and reducing isolation.
Our underlying values:
-
There is no one "right" thing that will work for every parent/baby/whānau. We are all different people, living in different circumstances, with different upbringings and life experiences - so of course we will do this differently from one another!
-
Safe spaces encourage vulnerability, which breeds connection. Our spaces are judgment-free zones where you can share your challenges and your wins.
-
All feelings are welcome.
-
There is no such thing as a silly question!
Services
Imperfect Parents provides inclusive support groups for parents - from pregnancy to school-aged children - where you can connect with other parents, share experiences, feel less isolated, and gain confidence as you navigate the rollercoaster ride of parenthood.
Our parent support groups currently meet in different locations - in 2025 these will include Sandringham, Westmere, Hobsonville Point, and Orewa - and include parents from across the region. Parents register to attend a group for a term at a time, with many groups carrying over for two or more terms, so real, long-term friendships are formed. In general, our weekday baby groups work best up until babies are about 8-10 months old and becoming more mobile, at which point you have the option of joining our Nature Playgroup.
With a focus on inclusivity, these are LGBTQIA+ friendly antenatal classes, where there is no "one right way" to build a whānau and be a parent.
Our classes are located in Central Auckland (Westmere and Epsom), and attract like-minded parents from around Tāmaki Makaurau.
These groups meet fortnightly on Thursday evenings, facilitated by Joe Angus, and provide a unique space for connection for parents who may not be able to attend our weekday morning groups. These are an opportunity to gather, share experiences, and find community.
Inclusive support groups for parents - different groups for different stages of parenting - where you can connect with other parents, share experiences, feel less isolated, and gain confidence as you navigate the rollercoaster ride of parenthood alongside a community of likeminded people.
An unstructured, outdoor, free-play group, where parents can spend time in nature alongside their children and other adults. Open-ended resources are provided, conversations and connections are encouraged, and parents can BE alongside their children as we explore in different locations throughout Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland.
